FAITH-INDIA, the Foundation for Ability Improvement and Technology for the Handicapped – INDIA, has been working tirelessly for the development, rehabilitation, empowerment and social inclusion of persons with disabilities for nearly four decades. Established on 21 June 1986 in a suburban area of Ernakulam, Kerala, FAITH-INDIA has grown into a nationally recognized organization with a wide range of institutions, projects, services and community-based initiatives.
The FAITH-INDIA Annual Celebration 2025 is an opportunity to celebrate this remarkable journey, recognize the achievements of the institution and, most importantly, honour the abilities, determination and potential of the people whom FAITH-INDIA serves.
A Journey of Commitment and Compassion
From its humble beginnings, FAITH-INDIA has developed a comprehensive network of programmes addressing the diverse needs of persons with disabilities. Today, the organization has twenty major institutions and projects, supported by numerous services and activities aimed at ensuring development, rehabilitation, equal opportunities and full participation.
FAITH-INDIA works with people across disability categories, including persons with intellectual disabilities, visual disabilities, hearing disabilities and locomotor disabilities. Its approach goes beyond providing basic care. The organization believes that every individual has unique abilities and potential that deserve to be identified, developed and supported.
A Holistic Approach to Rehabilitation
One of the distinctive strengths of FAITH-INDIA is its integrated approach. Although its various projects and services may appear to function independently, they are carefully planned and connected within a larger framework.
Each programme forms part of a comprehensive rehabilitation and development process. Depending on the individual, different services may be introduced at different stages. The nature and level of disability, individual abilities, family support, community environment and socio-economic and cultural circumstances are all considered when planning intervention.
This individualized approach reflects FAITH-INDIA’s core vision: the holistic development of every person as a complete human being, with recognition of both abilities and limitations.
Supporting Children and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities
A major focus of FAITH-INDIA’s work has been the education, rehabilitation and welfare of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Recognizing that different individuals require different forms and levels of support, FAITH-INDIA has developed interdisciplinary programmes based on individual needs.
Through special schools, rehabilitation programmes, community-based services and other initiatives, the organization strives to help individuals develop communication, educational, social, vocational and independent living skills.
The objective is not simply to provide assistance, but to create opportunities for individuals to become more confident, capable and active participants in their families and communities.
From a Small Beginning to a Growing Community
One of FAITH-INDIA’s significant initiatives began in 1995 at Pallikurup Village, initially operating from a small rented house. The programme began with just 10 children and later moved to Viyyakurussi to accommodate its growing needs.
Over the years, the institution has expanded considerably and now supports around 200 children through its educational and rehabilitation services. The school serves children from a remote rural area where access to specialized services can be particularly challenging.
In addition to those receiving regular services, many more children and families continue to await access to appropriate support. FAITH-INDIA’s Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) weekly day centres provide additional assistance to children and families who may otherwise have limited access to specialized services.
Celebrating Ability and Potential
The Annual Celebration 2025 is therefore much more than an institutional event. It represents the collective achievements of children, parents, teachers, therapists, staff, volunteers, supporters and the wider community.
Every milestone—whether it is a child’s first successful communication, a new educational skill, improved mobility, participation in a cultural activity, development of vocational skills or greater independence—is a meaningful achievement.
FAITH-INDIA believes that disability should never define the limits of a person’s future. With the right education, rehabilitation, encouragement and opportunities, individuals can discover their abilities and contribute meaningfully to society.
Looking Towards an Inclusive Future
As FAITH-INDIA celebrates its achievements in 2025, the occasion also provides an opportunity to look ahead. The continuing demand for rehabilitation, education and support demonstrates the importance of building more accessible and inclusive communities.
FAITH-INDIA remains committed to promoting equal opportunities, dignity, independence and full participation for persons with disabilities. Its work continues to remind society that inclusion is not merely about providing services—it is about recognizing every individual’s worth, abilities and right to participate.
The FAITH-INDIA Annual Celebration 2025 is a celebration of this vision and of the countless journeys of courage, learning, growth and achievement that have shaped the institution over the years.
As the organization moves forward, its message remains clear: every person has abilities, every achievement matters, and every individual deserves the opportunity to participate fully in society.
